The Queen's Hidden Garden
In 1984 David Bellamy, the famous botanist and environmentalist, produced a book called 'The Queen's Hidden Garden - Buckingham Palace's Treasure of Wild Plants'. The book was illustrated by Marjorie Lyon and contained beautiful illustrations of wild plants and flowers that grace less formal parts of Buckingham Palace, London. Portmeirion decided to capitalise on this collection of delightful plants and the design range was put together by Shahrzad Forouzan. Shahrzad was the wife of the then Chief Executive of Portmeirion Potteries, Kami Farhardi. Shahrzad chose twelve flower motifs from Marjorie Lyon's illustrations and these were used on a large collection range of drum shaped Portmeirion pottery. Portmeirion released this range in 1986 exclusively for John Lewis, confirmed on the pretty backstamp.
