Paul Cardew Prototypes | Rare Signed Event Pieces

Prototypes

Before any design reached the firing kilns for production, it began as a Paul Cardew Prototype. These are the "First Editions" of the ceramic world—hand-sculpted specimens created to test the limits of Paul’s imagination.

Because these were handmade as working concepts, they are unique, sometimes 1 of 1, and never intended for public sale. In many instances, these prototypes represent designs that never entered full production, making them the rarest artefacts in existence. Owning a Cardew Prototype is more than a purchase; it is the acquisition of a singular moment in British design history.

Personally Signed Teapots

For the discerning collector, provenance is everything. We specialise in Personally Signed Paul Cardew Teapots, many of which bear the rare Gold Signature applied by Paul himself during exclusive studio events.

Beyond Paul’s own mark, our collection often includes "Studio Multi-Signed" pieces. These rare editions feature the signatures of the core creative team that brought the Cardew magic to life:

  • Chris Bennett: Design Studio Sculptor

  • Gary West: Mechanical 3D Sculptor

  • Tom Johnson (the legendary ‘Teapot Tom’): Studio Manager

  • Claire: Successor to the Studio Manager role

The more signatures present, the higher the rarity. These signed editions are highly sought after by global collectors as a verified guarantee of authenticity and a connection to the craftsmen behind the brand.
