Portmeirion Pottery Cypher Teacup, White, CYW3
Portmeirion
A vintage Portmeirion Teacup in the Cypher design by Susan Williams-Ellis.
This fabulous Serif shape design was introduced in 1964 and was the follow up design to the very successful Totem range. Susan based this design on exhibits of Minoan Art she had sketched whilst on holiday in Crete. The Cypher pattern consists of alternate vertical panels of symbolic inscriptions and horizontal stripes. The pattern is very sharp in relief, extremely tactile and modern for it's time. Another personal favourite.
There are some nibbles to the rim, please see the photographs.

Cypher
Produced from 1964 Cypher was designed for the new serif shape of pottery. The design was named Cypher as the pattern resembled undecipherable inscriptions. Production of this range continued until 1973. Cypher was produced in green (called mustard in the brochures), brown, pewter blue and white. The most common colour seems to be mustard.
Very collectable and beautiful design.
