Portmeirion
A Portmeirion Vintage Side Plate In The Monte Sol Design by Susan Williams-Ellis.
A snazzy Monte Sol side plate in the green/blue colourway. This motif really reflects what was happening in the late 60's and early seventies, a groovy time for sure!
There is a full backstamp on the back. There are some usage marks. Please see the photographs.

Monte Sol
Whilst on holiday in Ibiza, the rich colours of her surroundings and all things Moorish, inspired Susan to doodle one day at breakfast. Using only felt tip pens she designed a paisley based motif with rosettes and crowns. The original designs were hardly changed when adapted for the Serif shape range for coffee sets in 1965. However, it was very popular on storage and spice jars in the green/blue and turquoise/lilac colourways. After but a few years, Portmeirion declared the pattern discontinued. However, with a remarkable turn of heart, the design was revamped, printing the motifs on a citron (deep lime green) glaze and remarketed in as 'Marrakesh' in 1970.
