Botanic Roses | Rare David Austin Rose Designs
The Botanic Roses collection is a testament to Susan Williams-Ellisâs lifelong passion for horticulture and her close personal friendship with the world-renowned rose breeder, David Austin. This range was designed as a "sumptuous celebration" of the English rose, offering a more romantic and concentrated floral theme than the broader Botanic Garden collection.
The "Austin Six": A Fragrant Palette
The collection features six distinct rose motifs, each meticulously chosen for its beauty and form. These are not generic flowers; they are specific, celebrated David Austin varieties:
| Rose Variety | Colour Profile |
| Fragrant Cloud | Deep, vibrant Red |
| Tamora Peach | Warm, sunset Peach |
| Portmeirion Rose | Signature bright Pink |
| Warm Wishes | Elegant Orangey-Pink |
| Scarborough Fair | Delicate, soft Pale Pink |
| Teasing Georgia | Rich, buttery Yellow |
Seamless Integration: The Laurel Border
While the central motifs shifted to these luxurious roses, Susan cleverly retained the iconic green laurel leaf border. This design choice ensures that Botanic Roses can be used as a standalone collection or seamlessly "mixed and matched" with any existing Botanic Garden set, adding a layer of floral depth and colour to a traditional table.
A Modern Rarity
Launched in 2000 and retired in 2010, the Botanic Roses range had a ten-year production run. However, since its retirement, it has become increasingly difficult to find complete sets, especially in the more sought-after yellow (Teasing Georgia) and red (Fragrant Cloud) varieties.
