The Cable Jug Water Set
This jug was first designed and produced in 1866 to commemorate the opening of the first transatlantic telegraph cable, linking the UK to the USA, and antique pieces are rare. The jug bears the cable motif, a British and American flag either side of the spout and the base shows telegraph tape bearing the message that was first transmitted.
Susan Williams-Ellis first reproduced the jug back in the sixties, but decided to resurrect the item again in 1977. She cleverly designed a complimentary beaker, bearing the same distinct cable work as the jug and created a Water jug and beaker set.
The items have a gloss white glaze, rather than a dull, biscuit like surface and complete sets are very difficult to find as only limited quantities were made. Both jug and beakers have an embossed mark on the base, unique to this set.
