A satin white vintage Portmeirion Hen casserole dish/egg store in the oven-to-tableware range, by Susan Williams-Ellis.

This is an ever popular and lovely chicken casserole dish or egg store. This white hen is the no2 size.

8.25 in (21 cm) beak to tail

Portmeirion Chickens

Portmeirion chickens are instantly recognisable by the little chicks under the wings.

Starting in 1963, by 1968 Portmeirion had five sizes of chicken from the largest size 1 down to the smallest size 5. By the 1970's the chickens were available in matt and gloss white, green, blue and brown. The sizes were reduced to 1, 2 and 3.

Blue and green were withdrawn in 1973 and Numbers 3 and 2 sizes were withdrawn in 1983, leaving the white number 1 chicken alone until it was retired in 1994

Truly a collecting classic.
