The Ladies Flower Garden design was one of five designs created in 1994 for the new Portmeirion China. Ladies Flower Garden was derived from a book of the same name by a Mrs Loudon in 1842. Eighteen bouquets of fabulous flowers were chosen and arranged by Susan and her daughter Anwyl Cooper-Willis. The vibrantly beautiful flowers are carefully reproduced in 21 colours and are surrounded by a twisted ribbon border. Portmeirion China was developed by Portmeirion's technical director Philip White, a clever marriage of porcelain and bone china, without the bone. It is very white and translucent, but is oven-to-table safe and resistant to chipping. Because of the tremendous qualities of this new material, Susan developed a new shape called Moonstone, which was a simple but classical elegant form, perfect for complimenting the new designs, which included Ancestral Jewels, Summer Garland, Welsh Wild Flowers and Moonstone Gold.
