Reddingtons New Foot Soldiers
These 19th century engravings, attributed to Mr Reddington, founder of a toy theatre, are light-hearted examples of cavalrymen through the years. Mostly available as black prints on white items, including the Cylinder range around 1966. Occasionally, items with solid red and blue blocks of colour as a background can be found. Other white pieces bearing these marching soldiers include tall coffee cans, jumbo cups and strap handled tankards. Susan revived the design again in the seventies and pieces then included chamber pots, cigarette boxes, plates and some oven-to-table ware items.
