The British Herald
This unusual range appeared in the mid-sixties. It was based on a range of heraldic images from a publication by Thomas Robson's British Herald of 1830.
The unmistakably nineteenth century illustrations are remarkably fine and detailed. They depicted family crests when it was important to advertise who one was, particularly on one's horse and carriage. The engravings were used as black transfers onto white Imperial tankards and Cylinder shaped coffee sets in 1966, plus a few other items including some on the Serif shapes. A few items were printed onto glossy orange items in 1970.
The back stamp does not bear the Portmeirion name but is worked in the oval used by the factory.
